My name is Adrienne Black-Connell and I am a Canadian artist who enjoys translating light and emotion through paint and charcoal. Painting in oil is something that gives me a vast sense of freedom as I am able to explore many different techniques at a whim. whether thick or thin, fine strokes or bold knife work, it's all possible. The raw feel of charcoal is also a favourite allowing me to get my hands dirty creating those fluid transitions and harsh textural scrapings.
Becoming one with my work submerges me in the moment and is very satisfying. I work mostly on larger pieces as getting lost in my subjects is part of my process. The viseral flow of my brush stokes as they push and pull pigment and medium across the canvas takes me over as I create. It is this physical conversation between artist and subject that is the warmth and heart beat of all of my work.
Light and shadow, energy and movement in all that nature offers are my inspirations. The connection I experience to the emotions of happiness, hope, and reverence for life are what I strive to express in my work.

While having travelled to and lived in various countries and metropolitan cities, I am now centered at my lakeside property in scenic Nova Scotia. It is a great luxury to paint every day from my home studio with its glorious vistas. I am surrounded by the beauty of nature continually fuelling my fresh impressionistic looseness and vision.

Nature in all its forms is always my inspiration. Light is always my focus. It is my great priviledge to be able to do what I do, do what I love, and share it.

Enjoy!
